Adopting a new pet takes a lot of thought. However, after this family saw this dog’s smile, the decision was almost instantaneous.

Many factors influence the choice of a pet to bring home, especially if it comes from a shelter. However, some are instantly captivated by the first one they see after entering the building or reading an ad about it. Such is the case with this family who shared how they adopted their dog online.

If you haven’t heard their story yet, now is the perfect time to do so.

It all started when staff at the Beaumont, Texas Animal Care Center stumbled across a little puppy on the main road by himself. Stray dogs are hardened to survive on the streets, but the innocent puppy they found might not survive long. When they found the puppy, he was almost hit by the car. Luckily for the puppy, they were there at the right time to pick him up.

People brought the little puppy to their shelter, and they immediately took care of him. Everyone present was captivated by the puppy’s adorable appearance. Rachel Barron, one of the employees at the Beaumont Animal Care Center, immediately fell in love with the rescued puppy’s devastating smile. As much as they loved the new puppy’s innocent looks, they knew they were on a mission to find him a better home.

The staff thought of the most perfect way to advertise his adoption.

Barron took the initiative to record a short clip of the smiling dog and posted it on his Facebook page with the following caption:

“This little girl is so happy. But what would make her smile even more? A forever home.”

Those words alone were enough to generate opinions and reactions from the Facebook community. Many were struck by the dog’s beauty, but it seems only a few were interested in taking her home.

However, one family fell in love with the dog at first sight.

Nicole Toney was browsing Facebook one day when she saw this adorable pooch while scrolling through her timeline. Her heart leaped when she saw the puppy’s wide smile in the video, and she immediately told her husband about it.

The next day, they rushed to meet the puppy themselves on their way to the shelter. The family was not disappointed in the least when they arrived, as they finally met the adorable puppy from the ad.

Without hesitation, Toney filled out the adoption paperwork and they were more than ready to take the sweet pooch home the same day. The Toney’s introduced him to the family as soon as they got home. The family was excited, and they also knew the dog felt the same way.

“She was shy at first, but you could tell she was so sweet and excited,” Mrs. Toney told The Dodo.

It’s time to give the puppy a warm welcome to his new home.

As soon as they arrived home, they immediately gave her a warm welcome with the rest of the family. They named her Layla, and the dog seemed to take to it. Nicole already owns three rescue dogs and two cats, and to make their new companion feel welcome, they decided to introduce them one by one.

It was amazing to see how well the gentle pooch was able to get along with them without any problems. Even though some of them were still a little cautious in her presence, it didn’t take long for them to become friends with Layla.

The family was happy to see how playful Layla was.

Layla seems like a shy girl at first, but when she’s in the zone, she’s super energetic! It seems like she has the energy to play all the time and still has some left at the end of the day. Layla would go get the other dogs’ toys and sometimes she would get the others’ attention and get them to play with her.

The family then taught her to climb stairs.

Layla had probably never seen stairs in her life and this was the first time she saw them in her new home. The family encouraged her to practice going up and down, and they were there every step of the way to support her. That said, as soon as she put her paws on the steps for the first time, she was already confident. With only a few mistakes, they watched Layla improve day by day.

Layla has grown since then, but her beautiful smile hasn’t aged a day.

Layla is a real dog now and she is big enough to take the front seat of the car. Even though she’s grown up, she’s still the playful dog that always comes with a heart-melting smile.
