Dog Deemed ‘Too Old’ Shot and Buried Alive Miraculously Saved and Given Love Just in Time
A dog found buried alive was miraculously saved. Star was found by chance by animal welfare officers who were in the area. When they found her, she had been tied up, shot and buried. Her story has moved animal lovers around the world.
But the worst was yet to come. When Star was dug up, it was discovered that all four of her limbs had been bound and she had been shot repeatedly with a pellet gun.
Miraculously, Star survived after doctors removed 40 pellets from her skull during an emergency operation at Ta’ Qali Hospital.
The case has caused outrage in Malta where, regardless of the nature of the act, the maximum penalty for animal cruelty is one year in prison or a fine of up to 46,500 euros.
The former owner of Star, Alfred Vella, was found and confessed to the acts of animal cruelty. He was sentenced to three months in prison and a fine of 10,000 euros. He claimed to have shot her because she was old. Star was 10 years old.
While Star appeared to be on the mend, she died shortly after her rescue due to complications from her injuries. She passed away in loving care.
