One woman traveled 2,600 miles to save a Husky with a crooked smile that people thought was “too ugly.”
A woman traveled 2,600 miles to adopt a dog who had been neglected at a shelter because of his appearance. Harvey, the husky, had been languishing in San Diego Animal Services for more than six months when Sherry Lankston saw an article about him.
“The first time I saw Harvey’s goofy smile, I thought, ‘Oh my God, this is the cutest dog ever,'” Sherry Lankston told Fox News. “I joked with my husband that I had found our second dog. We had been talking about getting a second dog for a while. River, our first dog, loves other dogs and needed a friend.”
Sherry learned from this post that people would walk by Harvey at the shelter and call him “ugly.”
“I’ve heard people say he’s ugly because of his facial deformity,” Joy Ollinger, a lieutenant with the San Diego Animal Services Department, told Fox News. “And then the whole time he was there, no one asked to take him out for interaction or possible adoption. Not once in all that time.
Sherry couldn’t believe that no one had wanted to meet him. But she decided that they did and hatched a plan to get him.
She and her family drove from Seattle to California to pick up their new family member. Harvey now lives the good life with six other pets (a dog, four cats and a snail). She says some people told her she was “crazy” to drive so far to pick up a homeless dog. But she says Harvey is worth it, watch video bellow:
