The Dog Who Had A Tumor On His Head Like A Unicorn Almost Died, But Now Has A Wonderful New Home
The dog who had a tumor on his head like a unicorn almost died, but now has a wonderful new home.
A dog that was almost euthanized because she had a lump on her head – but this “unicorn” dog now has a new life after getting a second chance.
Last year, the Labelle Foundation took in a “sweet pittie” named Strawberry. According to a post on social media, the dog was in very poor condition and was nearly euthanized before the Foundation stepped in to save her. Strawberry had two large bumps on her head and was in a “state of extreme neglect”: she suffered from mange and her skin was bright pink due to an infection.
The Labelle Foundation took her in and, after testing, determined that the bumps on her head were not life-threatening; they were simply scar tissue from an old injury. However, the bumps could not be removed: the rescue center said surgery to remove them would be for cosmetic reasons only and that there was a risk of brain trauma.
Because the lumps were permanent, the shelter was determined to find a family who would love this little “unicorn” dog despite her appearance. “We love our little unicorn just the way she is and we know we will find someone who feels the same way,” they wrote. Fortunately, one family heard Strawberry’s story and quickly fell in love with this “very unique” dog.
“I kept seeing her picture pop up on the foundation’s Instagram page and she was still available,” Kristen Kuhlman, of South Pasadena, California, told Today. “She just had such sweet eyes and, you know, I’ve never seen a dog like her before…. She’s very unique and recognizable and one in a million, one of a kind.”
Kristen and her family adopted Strawberry in September, and the mom told Today that Strawberry has had a hard time adjusting to her new home. “Strawberry has been through a lot in her life,” Kristen said, explaining that she “didn’t know what was going on” and would cry at night.
But over time, Strawberry has adapted to her new environment and loves her adopted family.
“She came out of her shell in a matter of weeks and became the most loving dog ever. My family loves her,” Kristen told Today. “She’s fit right in with our family. It’s great.”
Strawberry is such a beautiful dog, and we’re so happy she’s found a home that loves her just the way she is!
